Alexis, 16
Alexis began losing her hair at age five, and an alopecia diagnosis quickly followed. So did the questions from classmates. And the bullying. For a time, young Alexis wore a long wig. But she didn’t like the wig—she liked herself.
Now a teenager, Alexis models professionally with the explicit goal of rejecting societal beauty standards and raising awareness about alopecia. As she regularly states on her social media channels, “Beauty is diverse.”
The only photographers Alexis works with are those who fully embrace her alopecia and raw beauty.
“Josh’s work is spectacular,” raves Alexis. “Not only did he capture amazing images, but he has a unique ability to create a safe and supportive photo shoot environment. Our session was fantastic! I appreciate that the Tween Esteem Project is bringing much needed awareness and change to the fashion and beauty industry.”
